Well black Friday done and over with, we hear lots of horror stories of people getting hurt and acting crazy. With the crazy bills racking up and the stories of the people requesting more expensive gifts. Is Christmas about love or commercialism?

In my opinion Christmas in only commercialism if the families allow to be. Christmas gifts are nice, but it is not the main focus of Christmas. Christmas is about being nice, be kind to everyone you meet, being with friends and family, and remembrance of God and Jesus. Regardless of the a person's religious belief, Christmas is about good.

TV Commercials for black Friday left me in shock. One showed a person reaching into another person's cart for gift. When people see this they think it happens all the time. For some, it may validate that this behavior is acceptable, when it is not.

The cost of Christmas should fit in your budget and be determined by you. If someone wish list doesn't fit in your budget, then pick something else that does. If you just don't have the funds for gifts, then give Christmas by giving time and/or helping. Being with family on Christmas (no matter if it Christmas day or a Christmas party) is the best gift of all.

Many people are loosing the focus on Christmas and missing that Christmas spirit. Christmas spirit is found in love, kindness, and giving. Giving doesn't have to be money.

Don't let commercialism ruin Christmas. Stay within your budget, show love and kindness, and enjoy Christmas.

Christmas Cookie Exchange Party

Cookie Exchange Parties are a wonderful way to get a nice varity of cookies for Christmas. Basically the cookie exchange party works great when you bake five dozen cookies. Then you keep one dozen and get with four friends and swap cookies. You get their yummy cookies and they get yours.

This is also a good time to pull out any craft holiday item you may make and make some extra cash. Some people take kitchen towel and pot holder, sew them together with a button so the towel can be easily hung on the over door and not fall off. Its a win / win situation. An exchange of cookies and a chance to sell your Christmas crafts.

Christmas Food / Food Safety

Thanksgiving is now behind us and we all ready getting ready for Christmas. Some lucky people, Me including this year, already have their Christmas shopping done. Others will be searching and rushing to find the perfect gifts. Although the Thanksgiving feast is behind us, the Christmas feast is yet to come.

The is one thing that is often forgotten as the family brings their favorite food together, food allergies. My mother has a problem eating onion, which can be a real problem. Often she will eat something without seeing the onion and ends us with stomach problem later. Family get together can quickly turning in to an awfully night with tummy troubles or worse yet an allergic reaction.

Family members should speak up if they have allergic reaction. Then the food that contains anything someone is allergic needs to be labeled so they know to stay away from that dish. As a host, it would also be a good idea to check with people and see if they have any food allergies. Benadryl should also be kept on hand in case of a reaction. The person my still need medical help, but the Benadryl will help.

My son is allergic to shellfish. While eating at a buffet, he started turning red and said he didn't feel good. He was eating pizza. I quickly got him Benadryl and a few minutes later he was all better. The pizza had shrimp in it. As time goes his allergic reaction seems to get worse with each oops of shellfish.

While enjoying the Christmas season, I hope everyone will have a wonderful and safe Christmas.

Search for the right Christmas Tree

This year I'm on a very special search for the right Christmas tree. About five years ago I found the perfect tree for me. The tree was seven and half foot tall and sixty eight inches around. I love that tree, but sadly the tree has seen better days. One of my children fell into the tree, and yanked on the tree. Normal part of growing up I suppose, but now my tree isn't safe so I'm searching for another one.

I love that tree so much I want another one. It was full and big, although it barely fit in my living room. I've been having a hard time finding the right Christmas tree, but I'm planning on sharing my journey in case someone else is also looking for a great tree.

I search through two Christmas stores in Pigeon Forge, TN. Although they have nice Christmas tree none of them fit exactly what I'm looking for. Many of the trees where skinny. I don't want a skinny Christmas tree. I need a full and fat Christmas tree. A real tree would be a good solution, but my husband and son have allegies which prevent us from going down that route. Plus we have two cats which we fear the water for the Chirstmas tree may not be the best for them.

I'm at the start of my search. If anyone has any suggestions for me to check out, please leave a comment and I will check out what is there.

Everyone spends Christmas a little differently depending on where they live in the world and their family beleifs. It if fun to see how everyone has different traditions for Christmas.

As for me, I wrote about our Christmas in 2009 and exactly how we spent that Christmas day. Our focus was the children. Knowing one day the kids will be grown, every Christmas revolves around spending time with them.

The Bradford Celestial Light Tree Topper Made in 1970s

I love this tree topper more than anyother tree topper I have seen. I spent countless hours under my mother's tree just laying and wathing the color go around her wall.

The reproductions do not do just to the orginal. I have bought some reproduction only to be left sad that it did not work the same way. Really the design looks basic. More or less a disco type ball in the middle places colors of light on the celing and walls. The color spin around and around.

An orginals Bradford Celestial light tree topper cost around $500 and up. I very happy to share that I am inheritig my Grandparents Bradfor Celestial light tree topper that still has the box. With the orginal box this tree topper is worth $800 to $1000. With all the love I have for this tree topper, it'll always be on my christmas tree.
I hope to share this wonderful ornament with the world and to ask the Bradford company to please remake this remarkable tree topper. I will be recording the tree topper this year, to share with everyone.

The parties are filled with people we can't wait to see and/or over the top with all the decorations and Christmas goodies. You could be the one with the best party this year with a little bit of planning. Planning your Christmas party now gives you plenty of time for organization, shopping, and showing off your creative skills by making things.

Shopping for Christmas items in the Spring and Summer may seem odd, but it is the best way to save money. Right now any left over Christmas item as large merchants are being sold at a huge discounted price. Even stores that sell Christmas all year round will clearance products to make room for the next year's product. Many second hand or thrift stores have plenty of Christmas item that people didn't have room to store.

Shopping early in the year can cause one problem. Remember what you bought and where it is. Organization is the key to keep track of your Christmas items and needs. I suggest a Christmas note book or binder to record what you bought and where it is stored. The note book or binder will help to keep track of everything and help to not over spend.

Yes, it is only January. Now is the perfect time to start making your Christmas plan for December. Things to consider are your budget. Did you over spend this year? If so, find way to cut back.

One way to cut back is to start early so you have time to find sale.

Another way is to buy something special on your list instead of thinking about spending a certain dollar amount. Not every needs $100 gift... someone may be just as happy with a $20 gift.

Think about making someone something. Are you handy with your hands or are your learning something new this year? Knitting a nice blanket is a great gift for Christmas. Making the gift yourself may save you money as well. There is also a lot of time going into making a gift, so the reviver on the gift will feel even more special that you took all that time to make a gift for them.

Take a look over the expenses of last Christmas. Are there things you can cut back on and still have the same wonderful Christmas?

There is a little over 11 month for the next Christmas. Instead of being in a rush and fighting the busy streets and crowds trying to figure out at the last minute what to buy people on your Christmas list; relax and take your time this year by planning ahead.

Yes Christmas day has come and gone and now it time to go shopping! Why? Because right now you can find left over Christmas stuff cheap. Some stores are offer 90% off left over Christmas items. Buying items now can save you lots of cash next year.

Some things to look for right now is wrapping paper, bows, boxes, and tape. Items to wrap gifts can add up quickly, but buying them right after Christmas and you can find items for fraction of the price. Find that $5.00 roll of Christmas paper at 90% off and pay only $.50!! This is how I try to get those cute more expensive designs wrapping paper. At discount prices after Christmas I can afford to get what designs I really like instead of what I can afford.

Winter gear can also be purchased much cheaper as well. It is getting close to the end of the season so the stores are getting rid of their winter stock. If you have something that is starting to get too small or will need to be replaced by next year, now is the stop to shop if you can. You'll save lots of money in the long run.

I have come across some article I read on Helium about Christmas safety with toddler. Click the widget at the bottom to read them as well for more safety tips. There were many great ideas, but there is one that stood out the most to me was putting up a sturdy child gate around the Christmas tree.

Time to make Christmas Cookies

Christmas time is near and many of us are getting our baking done. Baking can be fun and if there are children in the home they will want to help bake as well. Here are some tips for making baking easier with children.

Allow butter to sit out at room temperature to soften. Using the microwave to soften the butter doesn't work out the same, the recipe will be much better with room temperature butter.

Clean as you go. If you use an item that you will need again, rinse it out and keep for any future use. Put in soap water or dishwasher as soon as you are completely done with item.

Allow the kids to do as much as they can. Let them add the ingredients, help stir, and even help put the cookies on the cookie sheet.

Make it clear that when the oven door is open the children stay away. There is a danger with the oven and the children thinking they are helping, but the oven is for adults only because of the possibility of being burned.

Kids want to decorate the cookies, but you're not big on frosting. Instead of using frosting try using colored sugar instead. Put the colored sugar on the cookies while they are still warm or put back in the oven to melt the sugar..be careful not to burn the cookies. Pull the cookies out a few minutes early, put the color sugar on and then finish cooking.

Don't be perfect. If you have a cookie that you want made perfect. Make two batches. One the kids can help with and one that you do by yourself. This allows the kids to have fun and you to get the perfect cookie you wanted. However family members will enjoy seeing the children made cookies as well.

Making cookies should be fun. Relax and take your time. It could also be a great time to set up a camcorder and record the children helping with baking the cookies.

Many people make a large feast for Christmas. A couple of years ago we had a talk with the children. What they loved most about Christmas was playing with us and their new toys. One things they disliked was the time we had to spend in the kitchen and having to help clean up the kitchen. This started our first finger food Christmas.

Instead of making a large meal we made simple foods that we mostly made the day before. Our first finger food Christmas including crackers with meat and cheese, Nachos Chips with a bean dip, cookies, vegetables, and lots of Christmas candy. May have not been the healthiest but for just one day the kids ate nothing but finger foods and loved it.

Now I work to getting a little bit of nutrition into the Christmas finger foods fest, but we still keep it easy things to make and clean up.

I love shopping for Christmas. I love spending time with my husband, hopefully a lunch or dinner too. We love to play with all the new Christmas displays. Taking time to stop together to watch what each new item can do. Listening to the Christmas music that plays on the radio and in the stores seems to make everyone in a happy mood.

Shopping is fun any time of the year. We are those type of people who like to go window shopping, thrift store shopping, and even garage sale shopping. Sometime we buy and sometime we don't, all depends on the deal and the money we have on hand at the time. Christmas shopping is so much better though. It is even fun to buy gifts for everyone. They don't have to be the most expensive or the best gift of their life, there plenty of little things that will make people just as happy.

One year my son got me a neat tool for open cans of soda pop. My rheumatoid arthritis had been bad for the last few months and soda pop was one thing I couldn't open. I would have to wait for someone to help me. He only spent a few dollars (1.99 I think) but it was one of the best gifts I got that year. I was able to open my own soda pop that to that gift. He was very thoughtful and thought about me, not the price tag.

So going shopping for odd old things if fun for us and we think they make great gifts. To find these things we do lots of shopping and search the entire store. Sometimes we run across stores that found items left from many Christmases ago. They will sell the stuff very cheap and often in a large messy pile. We love nothing more then to spend time going through the pile to see what we can find.

We are not the only shoppers who enjoy Christmas shopping. There are many more as well.

Christmas is a special time of the year for the joy and intangible magic that fills the season. It comes through in the delightful decorations, glorious get-togethers with family and friends and the sheer feeling of joy one gets from giving and receiving gifts.

Although the commercialization of Christmas is often decried, shopping is an important and central activity to some of the intangible magic of Christmas. It is at the malls or downtown stores that some of the favorite sights, sounds and scents of Christmas can be experienced.

The decorations at Malls and retail establishments are usually very fanciful and eye-catching, especially to children, with the many colorful and twinkling lights. It's also a wonder for both adults and children alike to look at the numerous tinsels, baubles and figurines such as fairies, angels and little babies that adorn the main Christmas tree in the center of shopping malls and others in department stores. These trees are usually extremely well embellished with decorations that are arranged in a very professional way that most shoppers can't replicate in their own homes. It's therefore a delight for them to stare at such trees in wonder and amazement.

Along with the wide variety of decorations in retail establishments, there also is the sound of music playing, bells ringing, the laughter and wishes of Merry Christmas from shoppers that also create a special atmosphere and add to the magic of Christmas. Even the sound of cash registers in the background adds something to the special feeling shoppers have at Christmas time.

And of course there's always a Santa Claus that children can meet and tell what they want for Christmas, and also have their picture taken. Sometimes Santa Claus may distribute Christmas gifts to children, telling them that because they have been very, very good they are getting an extra special early Christmas present.

The ability to delight children by telling them stories about Santa Claus, as well as making them see and talk to the jolly old fellow, puts a lot of magic and excitement into Christmas. Once the tradition is started, or from the first time that children have been told the story, it becomes something that they look forward to every year during the Christmas season.

There's also the sound of music from choirs or school groups who often give open performances singing Christmas carols and songs in malls and downtown areas of towns. Families and others who are out and about will pause to listen or to sing along with these groups.

Shopping is undoubtedly an enjoyable activity for most people during Christmas, but merrier and more memorable times are enjoyed when time is spent with family, friends and colleagues during the season. Before Christmas Day arrives, there usually are parties at home and at work, an evening out with friends and other occasions to get together and share the spirit of Christmas. The presence of special Christmas music and people dressed in holiday attire provide a different atmosphere and contribute to the magical feeling of the season.

Another thing that is different at Christmas is the scent from a fresh Christmas tree, of gingerbread and other cookies baking and other food preparations that are specially done at Christmas time. Most people who select a real Christmas tree instead of an artificial one for their homes do so because of the wonderful scent it provides. For many people, that scent from a Christmas tree is what puts Christmas into everything else.

Another popular scent at Christmas comes from the popular Christmas song 'Chestnuts Roasting Over an Open Fire.' The actual roasting of chestnuts by families during the Christmas season may be a rare occurrence these days but it is occasionally done in some downtown areas and in bakeries and confectioneries that make fresh products everyday.

All these events, activities, happenings, sights, sounds and scents of Christmas and the holidays create special and unforgettable memories. And who can deny that a pleasant memory is always something that is truly magical.

As a child I loved going to the tree farm with the family to find that perfect Christmas tree. We would all get bundled up into our snow gear. We would then catch a ride on the hey ride. The hey ride would take you all over the tree farm. The tree farm had some lots separated per kind of Christmas trees. Dad we often have a certain kind of tree in mind. We would get off the hey ride at the appropriate lot. Then we walked, talked, and searched for the tree we wanted. Once we found the tree we would put a ribbon on the tree to claim it.

The Christmas tree could either be cut down by us or we could as a worker to cut it down. My sibling and I liked helping Dad to cut down the tree, even through Dad did most of the work. Then we would all help carry the tree down to the main path. There would then be two hey rides back. One of the hey rides was for the trees and the other for us. Dad would ride with the tree while Mom took us up to the main store. I loved going to to main store. There was a giant fireplace and hot chocolate to warm you up. The building was full of neat nic nac and Christmas items. Dad would get the tree all loaded up.

Where vehicles may get damage or damage the lights.
